A. Your answer is A. At least according to Wikipedia: "After its failed attempt at a colony in the 1540s, for a time France limited its colonial interests in what would become Canada to fishing in the Grand Banks off the coast of Newfoundland. By the beginning of the 17th century, however, the French had become very interested in the fur trade, and this led them to push inland to better trade with American Indian tribes. French interest in the area began with the founding of Tadoussac in 1599. In 1603, Samuel de Champlain made his first trip to North America on a fur trading expedition. ... In 1608, he created a fur trading post that would grow into the city of Quebec, a settlement that later became the capital of French North America."

Whats the difference between colonization and conquering?
Q. I have to do a three paragraph assignment explaining the differences. But I'm just looking for some basic ideas. If I'm not mistaken, colonization is just when a people populate an area, a new area I guess. And conquering would of course be taking over land by force. Any ideas on how I can build on that and make it three graphs? At least 15 sentences?

A. Well, colonization is imposing upon a land and creating a city-state with a functional stratifying system within it. You can conquer land that you don't personally raise a city in or use.

What good came from the western colonization era?
Q. Despite the formation of new nations, how did colonization benefit other countries? I mean in the long run. It seems like all the colonies became independent and Europe didn't gain any territory.

A. The Western colonizers got very rich!! In Africa the colonizers took all the natural resources (like diamonds, rubber, ivory, etc) and shipped millions of people over to the Americas to sell as slaves for huge profits. In the Americas they used the land for cotton and sugar plantations, and displaced the native peoples in order to use the land for farming. In Australia and other deportation colonies they displaced the native peoples so that they could get rid of "unwanted" people (like "criminals" who were mostly poor, thus leaving the country richer in general). So basically colonization made Western European countries into the global economic powers they still are today. The same applies for countries that broke away from the original… [cont.]

A. First, we are too small to see the whole picture. Second, in the short term, colonization is difficult and usually cruel. The thing is exploitation is more common than we think. There is only a very small percentage of people who don't feel it in the whole world. So we learned to live with it. Besides this anybody who take advantages of exploitation -countries, politicians-they are the worst part of it- and this is the main thing that should be fought against. And third,In the long term the idea is good- it's Utopia. Where we have only one big happy continent. Where we have the same language and only one law. Where we function as a strong powerful machine. How has geography helped in the colonization of North america?
Q. more specifically the colonization of the europeans and the countries Canada, America and Mexico
Asked by Jas - Sat Nov 22 03:43:59 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Geography helped and hurt. The great plains and deserts delayed any expansion and population growth westward. The only real aspect of geography that aided colonization was access to bodies of water, coastal regions specially, and regions accessible and irrigated by rivers and waterways. Several mountain ranges kept settlers confined to relatively small geographic areas and forced settlements in differeent direction. The Appalachians is an example. Also mountain ranges affected weather patterns. Rainfall and spring water was also a factor in colonization due to the need for ariable farm land. For example the Pilgrims landed on the rocky beaches of cape cod and found farming near impossible so they moved to Plymouth.

A. The Spanish were interested in gold and silver. They did not have a lot of Spanish settlers that would stay in the New World to establish a permanent population. The British were more interested in the natural resources of the colonies to aid the industries of Britain. Settlers who came to British colonies usually planned to stay there and establish their home there.

We have the technology today, but it's the cost, the danger, and the time that prevents us. It will happen someday, I have no idea when, but it will. I wouldn't hold your breath though.
