For example, if you did a liberal arts AA and want to go into a science BS program, you might need to take different science or math courses than what you did for liberal arts. In many cases, there are specific sections of biology, calculus or chemistry that are designed for science majors that are required in order to take upper level science classes. If you took the other sections (for non-science majors) then you would still need to take the science major versions. This is especially common for Chem I and Calc I classes.
