A. There's obviously no subway directly to Baltimore, but the subway will play a key part in getting you there. Get a Manhattan-bound E train along Queens Boulevard. If you can only find the R, V, and G at a station close to you, take one of those until you can transfer to the E (at Roosevelt Ave. or Queens Plaza). Take the E to 34th Street/Penn Station. Exit the subway and go into Penn Station. You'll be able to get Amtrak to Baltimore there.

What do you need to do to become an HVAC journymen in Maryland?
Q. My husband has worked in the HVAC field for many years but never bothered to go through the process to get his jounymens. He recently filled out the paperwork and $10 fee to get his aprentice liscence (which apparently is needed to get your jounymens). Can anyone explain the process to me, specific to Maryland? My husband does work for a liscenced HVAC company, so he can easily get the hours. He is also CFC certfied.

A. I'm a librarian with Anne Arundel County in Maryland, so I'm happy to answer your question. If you're interested in becoming a Maryland State Trooper (i.e. joining the state police), they have all kinds of information on the state website at According to their site, the starting salary for a cadet (a trainee under age 21) is $22,871. No doubt that goes up significantly once you become a full-time member of the force. There is supposed to be a link to the salary scale for MD state police; unfortunately that link is not working.
